CheckQRVT

Abstract

CheckQRVT is an open-source project developed to enhance the security of QR code scanning and URL analysis. As QR codes become increasingly popular in various aspects of daily life, such as in restaurants, retail stores, and digital transactions, they have also become a target for cyberattacks, including phishing and malware distribution.

CheckQRVT aims to address these risks by acting as a secure QR code reader that analyzes the URLs embedded in QR codes before users visit them. By integrating with VirusTotal's extensive database of antivirus scanners and URL blacklisting services, CheckQRVT provides users with detailed threat analysis, checking not only the initial URL but also any potential redirects to ensure the safety of the final destination.

Developed by Emyll Almonte (Process/Algorithm Developer), Umangbhai Prahladbhai Dalwadi (Mobile App Developer), and Joshua Rabo (Web Developer) as part of a computer science class project at Montclair State University, CheckQRVT is a comprehensive tool that combines the ease of use of a QR code reader with the powerful security features needed to navigate the web safely. The project's goal is to empower users to interact with digital content such as QR codes with confidence, knowing that they are better protected from malicious threats that may hide behind such QR codes.
