CheckQRVT

Introduction

With the increasing integration of technology in our everyday lives, QR codes have become a convenient way to share information quickly and efficiently. We see QR codes everywhere, from restaurant menus to product information, and even in payment systems. However, this convenience comes with a significant risk of cyberattacks, such as phishing and malware distribution, which can be embedded in the URLs within these codes.

CheckQRVT was developed as a response to this growing cybersecurity threat. The project aims to provide a secure and user-friendly tool that helps individuals and businesses analyze URLs embedded in QR codes before they engage with them. This proactive approach to cybersecurity helps prevent users from unknowingly interacting with malicious websites or compromising their personal data.

Developed by Emyll Almonte as part of an independent research project supervised by Dr. Vaibhav Anu, CheckQRVT leverages the power of VirusTotal’s database to offer comprehensive URL analysis. This tool provides an added layer of security by detecting and analyzing any redirect links that may lead to unsafe destinations, ensuring that users have the information they need to make safer decisions online.
